The Future of UK Book Tours

For some time now I have been thinking really hard about the future of UK Book Tours and I have finally made a decision that I can no longer run it and I hope you believe me when I tell you that this was not an easy decision to make. I have literally agonised about it for months now. I’ve really enjoyed founding and running UK Book Tours but it costs me a lot, both in time and money. Everything comes out of my own pocket and I'm juggling my time between working full time, running my book blog, writing, and being a domestic goddess (HA!). Sadly, I can no longer sustain the site and so I’m afraid I’m bowing out. So I leave you with two options and I need your help to decide what we’re going to do...

1. Option one is to carry on with the current tours and then close the site down.

2. Option two is to have someone else run the site in my place.

I’d be really grateful if you could let me know what you think about this and I’d be very open to receiving offers to run the site. Just e mail me and let me know why you’re the right person for the job! However, think carefully about the realities of running the site before you apply.

It’s been really fun running the tour site (apart from the one blogger who stole my personal copies). We’ve been really fortunate that Royal Mail has only lost one of the many books that have been on tour. I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading the tour books and I thank you all for the continued support.

CALLING FOR ANGELS Tour

WITHER Tour

Am I good to you guys or what?! Actually it's thanks to Kate at Sithereandread who kindly let me have the book as she knew I really wanted to read it. I mean firstly, LOOK at that cover? It's GORGEOUS! Also, I'm loving Dystopian books right now and this sounded really interesting. Imagine a world where due to genetic engineering gone wrong, girls die at twenty and guys die at twenty five. Now imagine some seedy, underground business where "Gatherers" kidnap young girls and sell them off to wealthy men to reproduce with. I have to say, I'm about halfway through reading this and it reads like a victorian historical BUT it's set in the future. It's a strange world but I'm really enjoying it so far.

The one where I am forced to get tough...

As most of you know, I've had a lot of computer problems in the past few months and I'm pleased to say that I've finally got my main laptop back and I'm all caught up with tour stuff. Hoorah. It is my main goal to try and answer e mails quicker and this is what I am *HOPING* to do now.

As well as an update, I'm writing this post as it seems I'm going to have to get a little bit tougher with my approach to the tour site so please read the following...

1. If you are new to the site, I cannot stress this enough - please read The Rules and to be honest it sounds like a lot of people could do with familiarising themselves with this page. New people should also read So you want to join a tour? I am very open to welcoming new bloggers to the site but don't just sign up without contacting me first. Don't forget, I know nothing of your blog or even your address so how can I send you a book? You'd be surprised how many people sign up and then leave me no address. I cannot chase everyone as I simply don't have the time I'm afraid so from now on, if you are new and you don't contact me - then you don't go on the tours.

2. A lot of people have been asking me if there is a limit to how many tours they can sign up for and the answer is no, there is no limit as long as you are willing to abide by The Rules.

3. I'm still working on the MR LINKY thing so at the moment please ignore it if you see it on the site. One day, I hope to have it working so that you can post a link to your reviews.

4. Don't forget that if you are lucky enough to receive an ARC, please think of sharing the book with the tour site.

5. Last but not least, this is the bad part. I've been chasing books lately and it's really disappointed me to find out that bloggers have been keeping books for up to 4 months (yes I'm not joking) without contacting me. I'll admit some blame as I have not kept as good an eye on things but I thought the majority of people could be trusted. May I please remind everyone that there is a TWO WEEK period that you can keep the book unless there are extenuating circumstances and you CONTACT ME to ask if you can keep it longer.

As you may gather, I am quite annoyed about this and if I catch anyone keeping books for this length of time again without contacting me then they better have a good explanation or they will be barred from taking part in future tours. All the books come back to me at the end unless I give you an alternative address (for example, from people who have kindly let us borrow a book) and if you refuse to give the books back despite constant e mails and reminders then I will have no problem in outing you publicly as a thief.

I'm sorry to have to get tough but certain people have forced me to. I don't want to have to close the tour site down and if you don't want that either then please act accordingly and don't let it happen. Thanks.

CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR Tour

Thank you to Kate Linfoot for providing me with a copy of The Clan of the Cave Bear for review. I am planning on reading and reviewing this but I now have my own copy so I'm putting this on a tour. You may have seen this book in the shops lately as the final book in the series has recently been released. AND I cannot believe I have literally just found out that they made this best selling book into a movie in 1986 starring Darryl Hannah! I MUST look that one up! I think it's worth giving this series a go as it's been around a while and is still highly regarded it would seem.

AGENT 21 Tour

Chris is of course the ex SAS guy who has written a lot of successful adult books however this is his latest YA offering. The synopsis reads like it could be a movie and definitely one that might have boys interested but I think girls would be interested too, especially if the MC was hot LOL. I expect a lot of you will have heard of Low Red Moon by Ivy Devlin (a pseudonym for Elizabeth Scott). It was published in both the US and the UK with a lovely shiny cover and red is my favourite colour so of course I was attracted to this book! Psssst it's also got wolves. I'm actually halfway through reading this ARC and I'm really enjoying it. ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS Tour

Quite possibly the one you've all been waiting for, I present to you Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. This has been creating A LOT of buzz in the blogosphere and I cannot find anyone who has a bad word to say about it. I've wanted to read it for the longest time and now I have a copy. In fact, there is a funny and yet frustrating story behind the acquiring of this book. I had asked for an ARC when I first heard about the book but I heard nothing from the publishers so I assumed I wasn't getting one. MONTHS later, my US friend told me I had some parcels at his house that he'd tossed to the side and forgotten to tell me about. I asked him to open them and one of them happened to be an ARC of Anna and the French Kiss. I squealed in delight as I had wanted to read this book for so long. Now the finished copy is out (it is actually sitting right next to me) and my friend has STILL not sent me the bloody book. Actually, he may have sent it off yesterday if he got his arse into gear. Described as an epic love story spanning several lifetimes, My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares is a book I'm definitely interested in reading. It came out in hardback in America and was marketed as an adult book. In the UK, a different hardback cover was used to market it as a YA book and it is just about to be released in paperback. I think this is my favourite cover of them all actually. Out officially on 20th January, thanks to Hodder Books I have a copy to go on a tour. I'm a little late with this but Happy New Year to you all! And thank you for making UK Book Tours a success in 2010. Here's hoping to another successful year full of lots of great books! I'm hoping this year will be really exciting, especially as I'm attending BEA (Book Expo America) and hoping to bring lots of goodies home with me :) It's going to cost me an absolute fortune but the experience alone is worth it. Unfortunately, due to the high cost I'm thinking this is a one time only thing so I'd better make it count. I want to try and document the trip on my regular blog Narratively Speaking and I hope you'll take a look as a way of sharing the experience with me.

Anyway, that's in May. In the meantime, we've got some FANTASTIC releases ahead of us so keep your fingers crossed that we can get hold of some of the books. I'm going to work harder to answer your e mails faster and stay on top of things better. 2011 is a year of getting organised for me. I know some tours have gone a bit quiet but now that the festive period is over, normal service can resume. So, I wish you all a Happy New Year and happy reading! x

Well, the problems with my laptop continue but I've managed to salvage some data from it so the tours are back on and I have replied to all e mails.

I want to let you all know that I've added the "Mr Linky" feature to each tour post so you can now link your reviews. I would really appreciate it if you would link your past and present reviews of books you've read through the tour site :)

I'm also going to start chasing people who haven't contacted me lately as there are some books that haven't moved in a while. Don't forget that whilst I'm usually quite flexible, you are only supposed to have a maximum period of two weeks to read the book. I realise that now it's Christmas, the post will slow down a little and there will be some delays that are unavoidable so that will be kept in mind.

Can I also take this opportunity to remind people to take good care of the books that are in their posession please as well. And I'd like to ask people who have donated books to the tour site and would like them back at the end of the tour to contact me and remind me which books are theirs so I have a record.

DELAYS

As some of you are aware, my laptop has recently died and I'm currently in process of getting it fixed. This has significantly slowed down movement of the tours as all my data is in limbo. I'm pretty sure I can recover it, I'm just waiting for a copy of Windows 7 to arrive so I can do a fresh install. Also, do I need to even mention the weather? This will be the third day in a row the postman has failed to turn up. I don't blame him for the first two days but when someone delivering menus through your front door can turn up, I would expect Royal Mail posties to turn up too but apparently not. I hope they prove me wrong in the next couple of hours!

Anyway, so yes these are the reasons for any delays in replying to your e mails, giving you the contact details for the next person on the tour and receiving books. Please bear with me whilst it all gets sorted out. Thanks x

Nancy is a prolific author who has an incredible back catalogue which includes the Wicked series and is the co-writer of Buffy and Smallville stories, as well as featuring in a lot of the paranormal anthology books. DELIRIUM Tour

Thanks to Hodder, I've got an ARC of Delirium by Lauren Oliver ready to go on tour. I've been waiting for this book for a long time now. After reading Before I Fall, Lauren Oliver is fast becoming one of my favourite authors and having read the first chapter of Delirium, I already love it. I get the feeling that this book is going to be very profound. The only reason I haven't finished reading it yet, is due to other reading commitments. Also, I don't know whether you all know this but I chose the title for the sequel - PANDEMONIUM, which I'm very proud of. So, this book has special connotations attached to it for me now.

Initially she was asking if any book bloggers wanted to read it, little did she know that I would share it with UK Book Tours so fellow UK book bloggers got a chance to read it. I'm not sure if the UK rights have been sold for this book but it was recently published in the US. ACROSS THE UNIVERSE Tour

OMG you guys, this is very special. Across the Universe by Beth Revis is a book I've been lusting after since I first heard about it, I mean c'mon, YA IN SPACE!!! I just finished reading it yesterday and I was absolutely blown away. You know when a book leaves you speechless and you need to regain some coherence before writing your review? That's what Across the Universe did to me and I love it when books have that effect. So, you wont see my review for a little while as I'll be posting it closer to release date in March, 2011. Yes, you read that right MARCH. If you sign up for this, can I ask that you don't post your reviews until close to release date otherwise they will probably get lost in the ether (so to speak).

THE REPLACEMENT Tour

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff is by all accounts a bit of a spooky read and Maggie Stiefvater thinks you should read it alone, after dark, whispering it outloud! I have to say that I LOVE the US cover but I think the UK have done all right with this one, after all we have a hot boy on the front. Although, someone pointed out to me the other day that he looks a bit like one of the guys from One Direction (X Factor) and you know what? He does a bit!

SO I haven't read this yet but it's on my TBR list and any recommendation from Maggie is good enough for me. If you're interested, check out the Goodreads description here. I wanted to let you all know that I've sent you all a little surprise (don't get too excited, it's only something small) but I thought you might like it.

Also, you may remember that Girl Parts went missing. You may also know that recently I have been putting together bookcases and getting my collection in order. Guess what I found in one of the boxes? Yep, Girl Parts *headdesk*. I honestly thought I'd sent it out so I will be doing that now. I'm about to put another couple of books on tour (which are my own copies but I wanted to share them with you). Hope you'll sign up if you're interested in reading. Don't forget to post your reviews anywhere you can think of including your blog, GoodReads, Amazon, The Book Depository, Barnes & Noble (US site) to get the word out there about the books you love.

The Raised By Wolves Tour is going good guns with only a couple of people left to read the book although the annotated ARC has some work to do to get round you all. Can I ask that you send it recorded delivery (so it doesn't get lost and it only costs a few pence more than first class post) and that you write your thoughts in there and send it off ASAP to the next person. Don't hang on to it for days as we're running out of time now. The book has to be back to me to present to Jennifer by 4th October. Am I having a panic attack about this? I may well be!

PERSONAL DEMONS Tour

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to Lisa Desrochers for giving me what was one of her last ARCs for Personal Demons. She knew how desperate I was to read it and how unlikely it was that I could since US publishers are reluctant to send books overseas for cost reasons and the UK rights have not yet been sold. Personally, I would encourage publishers to JUMP on this book and acquire it NOW! So yes, I've read it and no, I was not dissapointed. It was everything I could have hoped for and more. I'm about to write my review for it and I'm guessing it's going to be a major gushfest. This was a FANTASTIC debut from Lisa and hot as hell! I LOVED IT so much that I've just bought my own copy of it. So with that kind of recommendation, how can you NOT sign up for this?!

The cover art I've used is actually for the ARC as the final copy of the book has a different cover. I prefer the ARC cover though so that's what I've used and that's the book that is going on tour. If you haven't heard of this book, check out Lisa's blog or the GoodReads description here.

UPDATE: RAISED BY WOLVES ARTWORK MY ARC Tour

Hi guys, I've got an update for you. I'm having to split the two ARCs up to make the tour go faster so I'm sending the ANNOTATED ARC (i.e. the one you can write in) to people who have already read the book first. I'm going to send the CLEAN ARC (i.e. the one you can't write in) to people who haven't read the book so they can make notes for when they DO get the annotated ARC. Hope that makes sense! I strongly feel that we should send the ANNOTATED ARC recorded delivery so that we can track it. I would be devastated if it got lost in the mail and we had nothing to present to Jennifer in October. Hope everyone agrees with this.

I now have confirmation that the Bloggers launch party for Raised by Wolves will be on 4th October from 5pm onwards and the invitations have gone out! I really hope that you guys can make it and of course I will be there and hopefully get to meet some of you!

RAISED BY WOLVES ARTWORK MY ARC Tour

OK, this is a very exciting tour and I'm about to tell you why. Thanks to Quercus Children's books I have been sent two ARC's of Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes to go in a tour. This however is a tour with a difference so let me explain...

Each blogger will be given the opportunity to WRITE in the ARC. And I'm not just talking a message in the front, I'm talking about writing ANYTHING, ANYWHERE and in ANY format. It can be inside the book or you can attach post it notes and postcards. The notes can relate to specific lines in the book, any specific note to Jennifer or something about whatever you're feeling at the time when reading. It doesn't matter what it is. You can circle, underline things, comment in the margin, draw pictures, ANYTHING. Basically, there is no limit to what you can write. Obviously it has to be polite and respectful though, that goes without saying.

The idea is to send two ARC's - one for annotating and one to read incase the annotated one becomes too distracting to read. THEN...and this is the big news... the annotated ARC will be presented to Jennifer at a bloggers party when she comes over to the UK in October. AND YOU COULD BE THERE TO MEET HER!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOT! There is no confirmed date as of yet but I will keep you updated.

Quercus have requested that each blogger takes a photograph of the book before and after it leaves them so they can make a document about the book's journey. It will be showcased on the Quercus main blog and reviews will be linked.

Let the tours commence

OK guys, I'm about to start packaging up books for the tours. I'm going to try not to send a lot of books to one person at the same time so the running order for the tours may change. I.E. if you signed up first for a particular tour, you may not actually be first to get the book especially if you are already receiving another book from a separate tour. Does that make sense?

I'm going to need you to e mail me your addresses at lynseynewton@gmail.com Obviously this is for my information only but of course I will have to pass your address on to the person sending you the book next. You will need to let me know when you have received the book and contact me for information about who to send it to next. Please remember to familiarise yourself with The Rules.

If you don't receive a book and you were first on the tour, please bear in mind that I may not have received the book yet as I'm still waiting for some to arrive.

The Crescent by my good friend Jordan Deen is an amazing book. Apart from the gorgeous cover art, the story is to die for and I just loved it. Check out my review on Narratively Speaking here. This is my own personal copy but I'm willing to send it on a tour as I want to share The Crescent love. I've just beta read the sequel Half Moon and it is just as good so look out for that in the future too. I want to add a note here that the editors did a very poor job and so there are spelling and grammatical errors. Welcome to UK Book Tours! As a book blogger, I know how difficult it is to keep up with bloggers and their book collections. I also see the harsh reality that UK bloggers are disadvantaged when it comes to getting ARC's from the USA, especially if the UK rights have not yet been sold. It doesn't mean we can't still get hold of the book on release date though thanks to online sellers. I set up this site so that UK book bloggers could share their books with fellow UK book bloggers and to encourage the donation of ARC's/books to the UK crowd.

Please sign up by following the blog and e mail me at lynseynewton@gmail.com to let me know what books and/or ARC's you'd be willing to donate or lend to the site. I must stress that there are a few rules however...

1. You must have been a book blogger for at least 3 months and blog regularly.

2. You must agree to the fund the postage costs yourself in order to send the book on to the next person.

3. You have a maximum of 2 weeks to keep the book, read it and pass it on.

4. Treat the ARC's/books with the utmost respect.

And that's it. This is the first and only UK only book tours site that I know of and I'm hoping that you'll join me in making it a success. Thank you all :)
